2022 Legislative Assembly Elections

Punjab Election Results: A Comprehensive Overview

2022 Legislative Assembly Elections

On 20 February 2022, the Punjab Legislative Assembly held elections to elect 117 members for its 16th Assembly. The results saw the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) emerge as the clear winner, scoring a landslide victory with leads in 92 out of the 117 seats. This marked a significant shift in the state's political landscape, as it ended the decade-long rule of the Congress party.

2024 Lok Sabha Elections

The 18th Lok Sabha elections in Punjab were held on 1 June 2024, with 13 members elected to the lower house of the Indian Parliament. The counting of votes revealed a competitive race, with the Congress party securing seven seats, the Aam Aadmi Party winning three seats, and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) taking one seat.

Congress Victory in Parliament

In the parliamentary elections, the Congress party emerged as the largest party in Punjab, winning seven seats. This victory was attributed to the party's strong organizational structure and the popularity of its local leaders.

AAP's Strong Showing

The Aam Aadmi Party's impressive performance in the Lok Sabha elections demonstrated its growing support in Punjab. The party's anti-corruption message and its focus on grassroots issues resonated with voters, resulting in the party's three seat victory.

SAD's Limited Gain

The Shiromani Akali Dal, a traditional political force in Punjab, managed to secure only one seat in the Lok Sabha elections. This outcome reflected the party's declining popularity and its inability to adapt to the changing political landscape.
