Halifax Regional Police have released a woman without charges after arresting her.
Halifax Regional Police say 21 people have been arrested after a demonstration in downtown Halifax on Saturday. The arrests came after a group of protesters blocked traffic on Barrington Street near Spring Garden Road around 11 a.m.
Police say the protesters were demonstrating against the Alton Gas project in Nova Scotia. The project is a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility in Goldboro, N.S.
The protesters were blocking traffic for about an hour before police began making arrests. Police say the arrests were made for mischief and obstruction of justice.
The woman who was arrested and later released without charges was taken to hospital for a medical assessment.
The other 20 people who were arrested were taken to police headquarters and later released on promises to appear in court.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
